Screenings bring about great rewards…
Last week we learned Right Footed was the winner of the “Best Documentary” award at the International Film Festival Manhattan. Just two days after attending the big screening in New York, Jessica Cox and Patrick flew home to Tucson, Arizona to attend the Loft Film Festival. The screening at the Loft Cinema — one of the nation’s most vibrant independent theaters — marked the Arizona premiere of the documentary and a landmark of sorts for everyone involved in the making of the movie. They say there’s no place like home, and Tucson is where Jessica and Patrick currently live and the city where director Nick Spark grew up and went to college. So it was inevitable that many friends, relatives, and supporters would be there. The guests of honor at the event were Jessica’s parents Inez and Bill Cox. Inez’ struggle with cancer is a plot point in the documentary, and so it was truly special to have her not only attend the film, but receive a acknowledgement from the audience after the end credits had rolled. Right Footed also came away with something else: the festival’s “Audience Award”. Although the film has been honored in this way before, this win felt especially beautiful.
